The origin of this project was a few years ago when I was a young-ish man with a BMI (Body Mass Index) that defined me as being obese. My fantastic diet of Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonalds, Pizza Hut and such seems to had gotten me there. At a company retreat, it sounds more glamourous than it was, they took a team picture and after the event I saw this picture and asked out loud "Who's the fat guy?" Whoops. I then lost about 15% of my bodyweight in about a year. I figured it took me years to get that much weight, then it will take a while to lose the weight. My solution was more energy out and less energy in. It worked! After the year I was officially only overweight and feeling great.
Ten years later came THE key moment. My SO was studying architecture and had an assignment that was designing architecture for people who are older than 100 years. I laughed and said "Another university project that's too abstract." The reply was "It's no longer a question of IF we will become 100 years old but a question of what shape will we be when we are that age." That really got me thinking and wanting to invest in my future, so I lost another 15% of my body weight over the next year, making me officially having a healthier "normal weight" BMI.
